【Wealth Succession】HONG KONG: Government official convicted in US of African bribery charges

A New York City court has convicted Hong Kong's former Secretary of Home Affairs, Chi Ping Patrick Ho, of violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and international money laundering offences. He bribed government officials in Chad and Uganda in exchange for business advantages for a Chinese conglomerate of which he was a director.

The case exemplifies the US government's use of the agency theory of liability recently articulated in US v Hoskins, relying on the fact that the Chinese company was registered in the US, and so was a "domestic concern."
