The International Ethics Standards Board (IESBA) has introduced new provisions for accountants providing tax planning services into its code of ethics. Until now, IESBA's ethical code has not included detailed commentary on tax advice. The IESBA's changes include a new requirement for accountants in business and practice giving tax advice to consider its reputational, commercial and wider economic consequences. The changes take effect for tax planning services beginning after 30 June 2025. As a signatory to Professional Conduct in Relation to Taxation, STEP will be considering whether any amendments are required and will keep members informed.
