Malaysia has charged Goldman Sachs in connection with its role in raising USD6.5 billion for the sovereign fund 1MDB, from which billions of dollars were misappropriated by its officials and their associates between 2009 and 2014. 

It has also charged two former Goldman Sachs bankers, Tim Leissner and Roger Ng, both of whom have already been charged by the US Department of Justice. Leissner has admitted money laundering charges resulting in a forfeit of USD43.7 million and a lifetime prohibition order. Ng is to be extradited to the US. Goldman Sachs itself denies wrongdoing.
